Jerry Young, 72, of Phoenix, formerly of Olton and Lubbock, died Monday, April 29, 2013, in Phoenix. Services will be at 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, May 8, 2013 at Main Street Church of Christ in Olton. Interment will follow at Olton Cemetery under the direction of Ramage Funeral Directors.
Jerry was born November 21, 1940 in Abilene, Texas to Arthur and Vera Collins Young. He graduated from Olton High School in 1958 and married Charlene Taylor in 1962. Jerry served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam war. He was a machinist who loved building race cars and hot rods. He owned and operated Jerry's Sandrails in Lubbock and enjoyed racing go-carts.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Charlene, in 1991, and a sister, Loveta Stueve, in 2010.
Survivors include his son, Dustin Young of New River, AZ, two brother-in-laws, Joe Stueve of Lubbock and James Taylor of Clovis, and a sister-in-law, Loveta Phillips of Dallas.
