Obituary
Alva John "AJ" Spain, 89, of Olton died Sunday, December 27 in Olton. Services will be 2:00 PM, Wednesday, December 30, 2009 at the First United Methodist Church with Sharon Wiese and Larry Holder officiating. Interment will follow at Olton Cemetery under the direction of Ramage Funeral Directors.
AJ was born June 7, 1920 in Sayre, OK to Ernest and Mamie Wester Spain. He moved to Olton in 1936. He graduated from Olton High School in 1939 where he earned the best all around student medal his senior year. He served in the Army Air Corp from 1941-1946 as a First Lieutenant. He married Jane Bates June 18, 1947 in Hale Center. He served Lamb County as County Commissioner from 1960 to 1992 and was a member of the First United Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Paul Spain and Don Spain.
He is survived by his wife, Jane, of Olton, two sons, Kenneth Spain and his wife, Betty of Lubbock, Stanley Spain and his wife, Lorenda of Dumas, two daughters, Alanna Cearley of Wylie, Jan Peters and her husband, Sandy of Shallowater, two brothers, Jim Spain of Corvalis, OR, and Gene Spain of Puerto Rico. He was also blessed with seven grandchildren and one great grandchild.
