Anita Cortez, 88, of Olton, died Friday, January 5, 2018, in Olton. Rosary will be said at 6:00 P.M., Tuesday, January 9, 2018, at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Olton. Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 A.M., Wednesday, January 10, with Fr. Sylvester DSouza officiating. Interment will follow at Olton Cemetery under the direction of Ramage Funeral Directors.
Anita was born May 2, 1929, in Brownsville, Texas, to Norberto and Paula Gonzales. In 1955, she married Pedro Cortez, Jr. She moved to Olton in 1961 and was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church. A talented cook and quilter, Anita enjoyed watching old cowboy movies. Our dearest Mother (Memo), as she was dearly called by grandchildren and numerous nephews and nieces, will be greatly missed but we celebrate her Heavenly arrival.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Pedro Cortez, Jr. in 1974, four brothers, four sisters, one grandchild, and two great-grandchildren.
Those left to cherish her memory include one son, Ray Cortez and his wife Vicenta of Olton, seven daughters, Ermelinda Cortez of Olton, Leticia Gutierrez and her husband Ray of Olton, Gloria Rosales and her husband Isaac of Lubbock, Esmeralda Cortez of Lubbock, Magdalena DeLaFuente and her husband Bernabe of Littlefield, Elvia Rodriguez of Seymour, and Maria Bengel and her husband William of North Carolina. She was blessed with 29 grandchildren, 47 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.
