Obituary

Balentine A. Garcia, 90, of Olton, died Friday, August 14, 2020, in Plainview.  Rosary will be said at 6:00pm, Monday, August 17, 2020, at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Olton.  Mass will be celebrated at 10:00am, Tuesday, August 18, 2020, at St. Peter's Catholic Church, with Fr. Jacob Powell officiating.  Interment will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Littlefield under the direction of Ramage Funeral Directors.  Viewing will be held from 12:00 to 5:00 p.m., Sunday, August 16, 2020, and from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday, August 17, 2020, at Ramage Funeral Directors.

Balentine was born February 14, 1930, in Mathis, Texas, to Marcelino and Catarina (Aguirre) Garcia.  He lived in Olton for 58 years and was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church.  In 1967, Balentine married Felipa Elizondo in Earth, Texas.  A hardworking farmer, Balentine enjoyed his work on the farm and enjoyed teaching his sons how to irrigate and work hard.  He farmed until 1998 when he went to work at American Cotton Growers until he retired in 2008. He was always welcoming and inviting people into his home for a meal or a place to stay.  Family was especially important to Balentine and his grandchildren kept him young.  Hunting and fishing with his sons and having family gatherings and cookouts at the barn were special times to him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Felipa Garcia, in 2017, a daughter, Mary Lou Almanza, in 2016, a granddaughter, Lulu Almanza, in 2015, four brothers, and a sister.

Survivors include six sons: David Garcia of Olton, Gilbert Garcia and wife Martha of Amarillo, Danny Garcia and wife Laura of Wolfforth, Ricardo Garcia and wife Elva of Lamesa, Valentine Garcia and husband David Lippe of Upper Marlboro, Maryland, and Marcelino Garcia and wife Suzie of Littlefield, a daughter, Marlyn Martinez of Austin, and two sisters, Care Garcia of Amarillo and Lupe Olivarez of Edinburg.  He was blessed with 24 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren.
