Obituary

Betty Hackler Slaughter, 88 of Levelland, Texas, formerly of Olton, Texas, went home to her Lord and Savior on April 25, 2025, in Levelland. Family visitation will be held Saturday morning, May 3, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., at Ramage Funeral Directors, in Olton. Graveside services will be held at Olton Cemetery, Saturday, May 3, 2025, at 3:00 pm, with Rev. Phil McClendon of First Methodist Church, Levelland, officiating and under the care of Ramage Funeral Directors.

Betty was born, August 4, 1936, in Park Springs, Texas, to Ernest Eugene and Iva Mae (Alexander) Buckner. On October 8, 1954, Betty married Bruce Hackler in Sunnyside, Texas. After Bruce's passing, in 2003, Betty moved from Olton to Levelland, and on November 19, 2005, she married J. L. Slaughter. They lived in Levelland until his passing in 2016. Betty was a long-time member of First Baptist Church in Olton, and upon moving to Levelland, she became a member of Second Baptist Church in Levelland.

Betty is preceded in death by: Eugene and Iva Buckner (parents, 1985, 1982) ; Bruce Hackler (husband, 2003) ; Patricia Hackler Murcheski (daughter, 2003); John Murcheski (son-in-law, 2015); J.L. Slaughter (husband, 2016); brothers: Bud Buckner and Herman Buckner; and sisters: Patsy Buckner and Orell Radford.

Those left to cherish her memory: daughters, Jeanettia (Ricky) Dudley of Levelland, and Debra (Glenn) Lobstein of Lamesa, Texas, brother, Bedford Buckner of Richland Hills and a sister, Virginia Settle of Hurst. Grandchildren: Aaron Murcheski of Lubbock, Texas; Tracy (Drew) Speigel of Lubbock, Texas; Rebekah (Jake) Slentz of Melissa, Texas; Jonathan Dudley (Katie Angelos) of Roswell, New Mexico; Crystal (Kyle) Chapman of San Angelo, Texas; Lee (Christen) James of Tyler, Texas; Bruce Wilcox (Crystal Mata) of Smyer, Texas; and Larkin Brown of Littlefield, Texas. Great Grandchildren: Preston, Julie, Sienna, Caeley, Mason, Amri, Michael, Kendyll, Winton, Wyatt, Landry, Layton, and Spencer.

Betty is also survived by a Bonus son, Bruce (Patti) Slaughter of Levelland, Texas. Grandchildren: Jody (Amy) Slaughter of Lubbock, Texas; Dusty (Devan) Slaughter of Levelland, Texas; and Hayley (Josh) Brown of Levelland, Texas. Great Grandchildren: Brooklyn, Logan, Cheyenne,  Blake, Brynden, and Quinn.
