Cecil "Bill" Smith, 86, of Olton, died Thursday, September 4, 2014, in Lubbock. Services will be at 2:00 P.M., Saturday, September 6, at Main Street Church of Christ in Olton with Mr. Brad Wangerin and Mr. Mike Reed officiating. Interment will follow at Olton Cemetery under the direction of Ramage Funeral Directors.
Bill was born September 14, 1927, in Mountain View, Oklahoma to Andrew and Mary (Faulkner) Smith. He moved to Olton in 1938 and was a member of Main Street Church of Christ. On October 22, 1945, he entered the US Air Force serving as Staff Sargent until 1948. He married Mildred Ann Carter on August 10, 1961, in Canyon. Bill worked at the Olton Coop Gin for 41 years and was acting manager of the gin for 18 years. He was named the Texas Ginner of the Year in 1993. Inducted into the Olton Baseball Association Hall of Fame in 2011, he served as a coach, groundskeeper, and anywhere else needed over the years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, and four sisters.
Survivors include his wife, Mildred of Olton, three sons: Kenny Smith of Olton, Doug Smith and his wife, Tonjua of Plainview, and Andy Smith of San Angelo, and one brother, Earl Smith of Lubbock. He was blessed with seven grandchildren: Joshua and Chanel, Stephen and Kayla, Cortney and Taylor, Michael, Dyllon and Hailey, Whitney and Justin, Colton, and two great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M., Friday, September 5, 2014.
