Obituary

On Thursday, September 21, 1967, the world was blessed with the birth of John Christopher Jones.  He was born to Anita Burnett Mandrell and John Paul Jones.  For the next 53 years, Chris shared a life of love and laughter with all those he encountered.  On Saturday, December 12, 2020, God called Chris home.

To say that Chris was an Ambassador for Olton, Texas would be a huge understatement.  He loved the community of Olton and considered the residents "His Family".  He knew everyone and could quickly explain how we were all connected.  He was a proud graduate of the class of 1986 and was typically the driving force behind all class reunions.  After graduating from Olton High School, Chris went on to attend Wayland Baptist University.  A few years later, he realized his calling was to attend barber school.  For the next 24 years, Chris spent his days running the Mustang Barber Shop and working as the beloved barber at the Runningwater Draw Care Center.  When Chris was not at the barber shop, you could find him serving the Olton First Baptist Church.  Tending to the church yard, helping in the kitchen on Wednesday nights for Team Kid, manning and lovingly guarding the popcorn machine during Vacation Bible School, or hanging out in the church office visiting with the staff, Chris adored his FBC church family.

Chris was a faithful supporter of the Olton Independent School District.  You could find him in the press box during home football games running the play clock, cheering from the stands at basketball games, working the concession stand, or attending all events for his "nieces and nephews".  Fridays in Olton were near and dear to Chris.  If you were spotted wearing black on a Friday, he was the first to remind you that,  "Our school colors are blue and white, not black."  Chris willingly devoted his time to serving as President of the Olton Cemetery Association and served on the Olton Chamber of Commerce and Agriculture Board of Directors.  Sandhills Celebration was a favorite for Chris, and he proudly served as the chairman for the Wednesday night Gospel Singing and Ice Cream Social.   When you were asked to bring homemade ice cream to this event and responded with, "I'm so sorry, but I don't have an ice cream freezer", Chris would reassure you that was not a problem.  He had extra freezers and would gladly let you borrow one to make and bring ice cream.  After years of perfecting his mother's favorite black cherry ice cream, the recipe won the coveted engraved silver spoon.

Chris is preceded in death by his grandparents John L. and Evie Burnett, J.C. and Pauline Jones, and his father figure, Louis Lopez.  Left to cherish his memory are his mother Anita Mandrell and her husband DeVern of Olton, his father, John Paul Jones of Denver, Colorado, brothers Allen Jones of Midland and Jimmy Mandrell and wife Jocy of Olton, and sister Jana McFadden and husband Monty of Olton.  Chris was blessed with countless nieces and nephews.  Chris was a father figure to Kylen Hall, Tray Johnson, and Coley Riley.  He was a brother to Tonya Morris, Chris, Jerry, Terry, Matt, and Marisa Lopez. He was a brother to Michael Ramage and "Nanu" to Zachary, Bryson, Analise, and Harper. He was a brother to Charlie Smith and the proud "Uncle" to Makenley, Taryn, and Owen.  Chris was the best friend to Denise Hasha and "Punkin" to the Hasha Family.  Chris also leaves behind countless members of his "Family By Heart":  The Ramage Family, The Smith Family, The Morris Family, The Lopez Family, and The Hasha Family.

The family invites you to celebrate his life for a graveside service at the Olton Cemetery on Thursday, December 17, 2020 at 1:00 P.M with Brother David Azam and Rev. Donnie Brown officiating and under the special care of Ramage Funeral Directors.  Everyone is encouraged to wear royal blue and white and be prepared to sing "loud and proud".

Family and friends are invited to sign the guestbook at ramagefuneraldirectors.com.  Visitation will be held at Ramage Funeral Directors on Wednesday, December 16, 2020 from 10:00 A.M. to 7:00 P.M. and Thursday from 9:00 A.M. to 12:00 noon. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Olton Cemetery Association at P.O. Box 1055, Olton, TX  79064.
