Darryl Curtis Dennis, 78, of Olton, died Saturday, April 29, 2017, in Olton. Services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Wednesday, May 3, 2017, at the First Baptist Church in Olton with Brother David Azam officiating. Interment will follow at Olton Cemetery under the direction of Ramage Funeral Directors. The family will receive friends at Ramage Funeral Directors from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M., Tuesday, May 2, 2017.
Darryl Curtis Dennis was born August 31, 1938, in Plainview, Texas to Floyd and Ineta (Wilkinson) Dennis. From 1961 to 1966, Darryl served in the U.S. Army and then entered the U.S. Army reserves. He married Nell Evans Wilson on July 25, 1985, in San Angelo. A lifetime area resident, Darryl worked at Nixon's Western Auto for over 20 years before retiring in 2009. One of the first Boy Scout's in Olton, Darryl was very active in FFA and loved showing animals. He traveled the country showing sheep for various breeders. Woodworking was a favorite hobby of Darryl's and he built many birdhouses throughout the years. A big hearted guy, he loved to tell stories and yarns. Lovingly known as "Uncle Tornado" by his nieces and nephews, Darryl will be missed by all.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Nell, in 2010, and a son, Cody Dennis.
Survivors include three sons, Kelly Dennis and wife Amanda of Frisco, Danny Wilson and wife Carla of Lake Dallas, and Jody Dennis of Lubbock, three daughters, Shelly Weir and husband Craig of Abernathy, Gingie Sredanovich and husband Mike of Odessa, and Laura Bean and husband Danny Barrera of Odessa, two brothers, Ronnie Dennis and wife Bobbye of Olton and Jerry Dennis of Blossom, and three sisters, Anne Nicholas and husband Buster of Plainview, Maenette Shipley and husband Charlie of Graham, and Sharron Hamby of Midland. He was blessed with 14 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
