Obituary

Delmer L. Givens, 87, passed away March 26, 2009 in Lubbock. Services will be 2:00 PM, Monday, March 30, 2009 at the First United Methodist Church in Olton with Rev. Richard Coffman and Brother Larry Holder officiating. Interment will follow at Olton Cemetery under the direction of Ramage Funeral Directors.

Delmer was born March 24, 1922, on the farm south of Olton to E.E. and Maggie Givens. He married Enid Wilson March 1, 1940 in Clovis, N.M. He served in the U.S. Army as Sgt. 1st Class from 1946 to 1949 and toured Germany in the Artillery Division. He was a member of VFW Post #4779 and former member of the Hale County Sheriff's Posse. He is a former Olton Man of the Year and a member of the first class of inductees in the Olton Athletic Hall of Fame. Delmer was a staunch supporter of the Olton Stock Show and the Olton Athletic Booster Club.

He is survived by his wife, Enid of Olton, two sons, Dennis Givens of Olton, and Tim Givens and his wife, Cindy of Happy, a daughter, Renee Williams and her husband, Ken of Olton, one brother, A.J. Givens of Halfway, and one sister, Mary Miller of Plainview. He had seven grandchildren, Mike Williams, Melanie Alls, Melinda Lewis, Lori Burch, Dale Wayne Givens, Valerie Struve, and Jeremy Givens. Delmer was also blessed with thirteen great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, Randle Givens, two grandsons, Chad Givens and Bobby Joe Givens, and a great granddaughter, Kylan Alls.
