Obituary

Dewey Lowell Hukill, 85, of Olton, passed away on Monday, January 5, 2026. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, January 9, 2026, at First Baptist Church in Olton with Brother David Azam, Brother Kyle Streun, and Brother Patrick Hamilton officiating. Interment will follow at Olton Cemetery under the care of Ramage Funeral Directors. Visitation will be held from 1:00 to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, January 8, 2026, with the family receiving friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., at Ramage Funeral Directors in Olton.

Dewey was born October 20, 1940, in Littlefield, Texas, to Judson Paul and Jetty Inis (Barnett) Hukill. He graduated from Olton High School in 1958 and continued his education at South Plains College and Texas Technological College. After college, Dewey worked at Lubbock City Farms for four years before moving back to Olton in 1967, where he built a life rooted in agriculture, faith, and community service. He married the love of his life, Patricia Ann LaFrance, on November 26, 1960, and together they shared a lifetime of devotion to family and community.

A lifelong farmer, Dewey also co-operated Pride of the Plains Bulb Farm alongside Royce McFadden for more than 20 years. His leadership and service were evident through his involvement in countless organizations, including serving as an Olton Grain Cooperative Director, a deacon at First Baptist Church in Olton since 1979, Lamb County Farm Bureau Director, Lamb County Appraisal Board member, Texas Farm Bureau Board of Directors where he served three years as Vice President, Olton Industrial Foundation Board member, President of the RDCC Board of Directors, Olton Stock Show Board for over 20 years, and the FFA Foundation Board of Directors. While in high school, Dewey earned both his FFA Lone Star Farmer Degree and American Farmer Degree.

Dewey's dedication and service were widely recognized. His family was named Farm Family of the Year in 1980, Olton's Man of the Year in 2006, received the Texas Farm Bureau Pioneer Award in 2017, and was honored as Olton's Citizen Through the Years in 2021. In 2007, the Olton Livestock Show was proudly dedicated to Dewey. A true family man, Dewey deeply loved his grandchildren, the Olton Livestock Show, and his community. He was a devoted supporter of Olton athletics and an avid Texas Tech athletic fan.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Waylan Dean Hukill.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Pat Hukill of Olton; his sons, Kregg Hukill and wife Lezlie of Plainview, and Kevin Hukill of Lubbock; his daughter, Kelli Patrice Smith and husband John of Amarillo; his grandchildren, Kaitlin Hukill, Claire Oleru and husband Toby, Lauren Smith and husband Ryan, Kynzee Smith and husband Jake, Courtney Wright and husband Andrew, Grayson Smith and wife Calli, Charles Fiene, Emily King and husband Jordan, Caleb Hukill, and Abbigail Hukill; and his great-grandchildren, Owen, Eden, Emma, Kenton, Lively, Hallie, and June.

Dewey will be remembered for his steadfast faith, tireless service, love for agriculture, and unwavering devotion to his family and community.
