Donald Wayne Oursbourn was born on May 21, 1944, in Amherst, Texas, to Aubrey and Elizabeth Oursbourn. He was the fifth child of eight brothers and sisters. He and his siblings were raised on a farm outside of Olton, Texas. He graduated from Olton High School in 1962 and attended Texas Tech University before deciding to try his hand at farming. After several years of being hailed out, Don decided to go to work for the Olton Grain Coop. After 30 years, he needed a change. He moved down the street to the Olton Coop Gin where he was the safety manager and ran for parts. He retired in 2011. He decided that retirement wasn't for him, so he went to work for KOA in 2012. He worked in maintenance, filled propane tanks, and greeted the campers. He loved his KOA family who affectionately called him "Ole Man".
Donald had the drive and energy of two men. He loved working with cattle. He was a volunteer fireman and paramedic for over 30 years. He coached his sons' baseball teams and drove for the bus ministry in his church. Don was always busy with his family, odd jobs, wood working, and remodeling every house he lived in.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Gary Oursbourn, and two sisters, Audrey Durham and Peggy Ross.
Survivors include his wife, Theresa Oursbourn of Lubbock, two sons, Danny Oursbourn and wife Susan of Rockwall and Tim Oursbourn and wife Libbie of Lubbock, his daughter, Lori Friesen and husband Henry of Brownfield, his children's mother, Gladys Harper of Lubbock, two brothers, Ronnie Oursbourn and wife Nancy of Springfield, Missouri and Cecil Oursbourn and wife Janice of Lonoke, Arkansas, and two sisters, Mary Brady of Hollister, California and Helen McClure of Canyon. He was blessed with nine grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.
The family suggests memorials be made to the Olton Volunteer Fire Department PO Box 1087 Olton, Texas 79064.
