Doris Chaney McGill, 91, of Paris and formerly of Olton, died peacefully on August 12, 2014, in Paris, Texas. A family visitation will be held from 4:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M., Friday, August 15, 2014, at Ramage Funeral Directors. A graveside service will be held at 5:30 P.M., Friday, August 15, at Olton Cemetery with Rex Boyles officiating and under the direction of Ramage Funeral Directors.
Doris was born June 13, 1923, in Rochester, TX. She was raised in and attended school in Fieldton and graduated from Amherst High School in 1942. She enlisted in and served as a secretary in the Navy (Wave) from 1944-1946. She met the love of her life, Elmer McGill, in April of 1946 and they married Oct. 18, 1946. She attended court reporting school in Plainview but chose to be a stay at home mom when they adopted Jane in 1956, and Darrell, David, and Karen in 1959. After the children were all in school, she worked at Sherman Insurance Company in Olton and later moved to Paris in 1975.
Doris thoroughly enjoyed cooking, taking care of others, and spending time with her family and friends. She was a member of Lamar Avenue Church of Christ and was a strong Christian who truly walked the walk.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer McGill, her parents, K.J. and May Chaney, two brothers, Jack and Alexander (Tink) Chaney, sisters, Juanita Stamps, Leota McDuff, Leora Roberts, Madge Blackman, and Ruby Jo Yeary.
Survivors include her children, Jane Washington, Darrell McGill, David McGill, Karen and Doug Cato, daughter-in-law, Carol McGill, grandchildren, Lance Washington, Brandon McGill and wife, Trudy, Tiffany McGill, Dereck McGill and wife, Marilyn, Kevin McGill, Daniel Cato and wife, Jordan, Joshua Cato and wife, Amie, Phillip Cato and wife, Shana, 18 great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild.
