Elida Mendez Gomez, 70, of Olton, died Saturday, July 6, 2024, in Lubbock, Texas. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m., Thursday, July 11, 2024, at New Vision Pentecostal Church, in Olton, with Pastor Noel Chapparo officiating.  Interment will follow at Hart Cemetery in Hart, Texas, under the direction of Ramage Funeral Directors.  Visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, July 10, 2024, at New Vision Pentecostal Church, in Olton.

Elida was born January 24, 1954, in Hart, Texas, to Francisco and Josephine (Reyna) Mendez.  She married Juan Gomez in 1972 and was a long-time Olton resident.  A member of New Vision Pentecostal Church, Elida loved to sing for the Lord and sing at church revivals. She also served as the secretary at New Vision Pentecostal Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Juan Gomez, Sr., a sister, Isabel Flores, and a grandson, Rico Manuel Gomez.

Survivors include two sons, Juan Gomez, Jr. of Olton and Julian Gomez and wife Brenda of Wichita, Kansas, three brothers, Erasmo Mendez of Edinburg, Eliseo Mendez of Colorado, and Joe Reyna of Hart, and six sisters, Elena Mendez of Colorado, Estella Chaparro of Hart, Elvira Ramirez of Hart, Ermelinda Ramirez of Colorado, Erminia Medina of Kansas, and Petra Cantu of Hart. She was blessed with seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
