Elizabeth Alice Upton Boruk, 94, died Tuesday, November 18, 2008 in Plainview. Services will be 2:00 PM Sunday, November 23, 2008 at the First United Methodist Church in Olton with Brother Larry Holder officiating. Interment will follow at Olton Cemetery under the direction of Ramage Funeral Directors.
Elizabeth, also known as Aunt Sis, was born January 25, 1914 to Thomas Jefferson Upton and Lallie Elizabeth Upton. She was born in a dugout on her Dad's homestead near Hassell, New Mexico. She graduated from House High School in 1930 at the age of 16 and went on to Draughn's Business College for nine months.
In 1946, she married Steve Boruk and moved from Brownfield to a farm near Hart in 1948. In 1951, they bought the Alameda and Roxy theaters and a Mexican dance hall in Olton. They built the Mustang Drive-In Theater in Olton in 1953 and the first show was "Annie Get Your Gun". Elizabeth was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Olton. She retired in 1965 and traveled the country with her husband for the next 12 years. After Steve passed away in 1977, she continued to travel including visiting Europe, Nova Scotia, and Scandanavia. In 2008, she became a resident at Runningwater Draw Care Center in Olton.
Elizabeth is survived by her brother, William A. Upton and his wife, Betty of Melrose, NM, a sister-in-law, Marie Upton of Trenton, Nebraska, five nieces, Linda Sparks and her husband, Jerry of Fort Sumner, NM, Shirley Lacroix and her husband, Chuck of Bloomfield, NM, Rhonda Collins and her husband, Johnny of Las Alamos, NM, Margaret Pollman and her husband, Loren of Trenton, NE, and Cathy Upton of Trenton, NE. She is also survived by two great nieces, seven great nephews, three great-great nieces and four great-great nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Steve in 1977, her parents, two sisters, and three brothers.
