Obituary

Essie Lee Wozencraft Sluder, 100, of Olton, died Sunday, August 17, 2014, in Lubbock. Services will be at 2:00 P.M., Wednesday, August 20, 2014, at the First Baptist Church in Olton. Interment will follow at Olton Cemetery.

Essie Lee was born May 26, 1914 in Eldorado, Oklahoma to Floyd and Eunice (Fellers) Coleman. A lifetime Olton resident, she graduated from Olton High School in 1931. On December 2, 1934, she married her high school sweetheart, Ivin Wozencraft. He preceded her in death on June 9, 1992. She married Tom Sluder on June 19, 1993 and he preceded her in death on March 16, 1997. She taught school for over 30 years in Olton and in Tulia and was known for her famous school teacher looks. Essie Lee loved to sew, quilt, and was especially good at baking bread. She volunteered at the Running Water Draw Care Center. She rode her bicycle to the care center many days and could be seen around town on her bicycle until she was 94. She was a one of a kind grandmother and loved spending time with family. She especially looked forward to the after school visits from Ian, Lorena, Elijah, and Noah.

She was preceded in death by a son, Ivin Wozencraft, Jr., three grandsons, Rickey, Danny, and Darrell Wozencraft, a granddaughter, Deanna Wozencraft, five brothers, and a sister.

Survivors include her daughter, Dee Smith of Lubbock, six granddaughters, Morgana, Dena, Debbie, Dee, Renee, and Melissa, 11 great-grandchildren, and 12 great-great-grandchildren. She was also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M., Tuesday, August 19, 2014.
