Florencio "Shorty" Gomez-Lopez, 78, of Olton, died Monday, May 12, 2014, in Lubbock. Rosary will be said at 7:00 P.M., Thursday, May 15, at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Olton. Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 A.M., Friday, May 16, at St. Peter's Catholic Church with Fr. John Smith officiating. Interment will follow at Olton Cemetery under the direction of Ramage Funeral Directors.

Shorty was born February 1, 1936, in Tequanipa, Mexico to Trinidad and Maria Carmen Lopez Hernandez. He moved to Olton in 1968 and worked at the Olton Feedlot for many years. He married Rita Minerva Lopez in September of 1978 in Olton. He was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church and the Crusillistas. He enjoyed gardening, playing basketball, and watching boxing.

Survivors include his wife, Rita M. Lopez of Olton, six sons: Carlos Martinez and his wife, Elizabeth of Dumas, Ruben Alvarado of Harlingen, Daniel Alvarado of Midland, Augustine Hernandez, Juan Antonio Hernandez and Alejandro Hernandez, all of San Luis, Mexico, and two daughters: Nancy Macedo and her husband, Indalecio of Des Moines, IA, and Adriana Soto of Mesquite. He was blessed with ten grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
