Obituary

Frances "Chunky" Harrell Chumrey, 102, of Plainview and formerly of Halfway, passed into the arms of Jesus on Sunday, April 13th, 2025, at her residence in Westridge Manor in Plainvew, TX.  Viewing will be held from 2:00 to 7:00 p.m., Monday, April 14, 2025, at Ramage Funeral Directors, in Hale Center. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 15, 2025, at Plainview Memorial Park, in Plainview under the care of Ramage Funeral Directors.

Frances was born in Haskell County, outside of Rochester, TX, on February 24th, 1923, to John and Rhoda (Allen) Epley. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Clyde Washington Harrell, and her second husband, Michael Chumrey.  She is survived by 2 sons, Clyde "Butch" Harrell and his wife Sherry of Hale Center, TX and Rex Harrell of Hemphill, TX; three grandchildren: Michael Harrell and his wife Cristie, of Plainview, TX; Susan Harrell Swinburn and her husband Michael, of Shallowater, TX; Lisa Harrell Mull and her husband Dan, of Lubbock, TX. She was blessed with eight great grandchildren: Derek Harrell and his wife Denise; Chandra Harrell Hinojos and her husband Matthew; Holly Summers and her husband Joshua; Samantha Thomas, Shelby Thomas, Taylor Mull, Dylan Mull, and Makenna Mull.

Frances lived a long and healthy life on the family farm near Halfway, TX.  She was known as the one who provided flower arrangements at her church's Sunday services, from her own flower beds.  She and her husband, Clyde, were active members and leaders of First Baptist Church Halfway for many years. She enjoyed cooking and entertaining friends and family at their home; and no funeral at their church was absent of one of her delicious dishes or pies.  Many Sunday evening jamborees were hosted at her home with friends and family playing musical instruments of banjo, violin, trumpet, accordion, guitar, bass guitar and piano. It may be considered that hoeing weeds was her hobby, as she would be out ridding the world of weeds with hoe in hand, up until her late 70s.  She made the best granny jelly from grapes and plums from her own vines and trees.  Her family fondly remembers her delicious cooking, and consider her "monkey bread" the best in the world. Her great grandchildren remember her saving ice cream drumsticks in her freezer to share together when they came to visit.  Granny was beautiful inside and out and she and Clyde created the greatest legacy one could for their family by committing their lives to Jesus Christ.  Their legacy of faith has led their children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren's professions of faith in Jesus as well. Granny is rejoicing in heaven today and those who know and love her left here on earth are remembering her fondly and take joy in that fact.

The family suggests memorials be made to Compassionate Care Pregnancy Center PO Box 189 Plainview, Texas 79073.
