Obituary

J Frank Daugherty, 79, of Olton, died Tuesday, December 9, 2014, in Olton. Services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Saturday, December 13, at the First Baptist Church in Olton with Rev. Logan Cummings and Brother David Azam officiating. Interment will follow at Olton Cemetery under the direction of Ramage Funeral Directors.

J Frank was born February 26, 1935, in Olton, to Frank and Glenice (Allen) Daugherty. He graduated from Olton High School in 1953 and was a member of the First Baptist Church. While attending the University of Texas, he won the 100 and 220 yard races and the team won the Southwest Conference meet in 1957. He was a member of the 440 yard relay team that set a world record. On June 26, 1955, J Frank married Barbara Cornelius in Olton. He was a past board member for the Sandcrawl Museum and the Olton Cemetery Association. A member of the American Quarter Horse Association from the age of 12, J Frank received an award for 50 years of breeding American Quarter Horses. In 2000, he was named the Lubbock Avalanche Journal South Plains top 100 Athletes of the Century and the Amarillo Globe News' Top 100 Sports Legends of the Panhandle.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Maureen Carlisle.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara of Olton, his son, Ted Daugherty and his wife, Jennifer of Silverton, and two daughters, Virginia Ellen Daugherty of Olton and Patricia Barnett and her husband, Bart of Olton. He was blessed with five grandchildren: Shane, Billy, Ellen, Calvin, and Cody.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 4:00 to 6:00 P.M., Friday, December 12.
