James H. Busby, of Springlake, died Saturday, November 26, 2016, at his home in Springlake. Graveside services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Monday, November 28, 2016, at Littlefield Memorial Park in Littlefield with Brother Glenn Harlin and Brother Rob Norris officiating and under the care of Ramage Funeral Directors of Olton.
James was born March 28, 1925, in Vernon, Texas, to Junior and Lula (Horton) Busby. James moved to Springlake in 1936 and was a graduate of Olton High School. He enlisted in the United States Navy and served from 1943 to 1946 during World War II. While in the Navy, he was a navigator on a PBY flying wounded back to Pearl Harbor. James was a pilot and his love for flying lasted throughout his life. On June 12, 1948, James married his best friend, Mary Louise Hood, in Littlefield. James served as a bank director for Olton State Bank, Muleshoe State Bank, and Security State Bank. He also served on the Springlake-Earth I.S.D. school board for many years. A member of Springlake First Baptist Church, James retired from farming in 1975.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, and a grandson, Blake Byers in 1982.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Busby of Springlake, his son, Steve Busby and wife, Lauren of Springlake, and his daughter, Cynthia Byers and husband, Danny of Earth. He was blessed with five grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren.
