Joe Hall, 85, of Olton, died Monday, March 2, 2020, in Lubbock. Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM, Saturday, March 7, 2020, at the First Baptist Church in Olton with Brother David Azam officiating. Interment will follow at Olton Cemetery under the direction of Ramage Funeral Directors. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM, Friday, March 6, 2020, at Ramage Funeral Directors in Olton.
Joe was born July 22, 1934, in a small house just north of Olton, to William Thomas and Allie Melinda (Nichols) Hall. Joe grew up in a close-knit family with three brothers and five sisters and was a member of Olton High School's Class of 1951. On March 2, 1952, Joe married the love of his life, Betty Jo Hicks, in Olton. While in high school, Joe began his career as a carpenter with an after school job at the lumberyard. A master carpenter, Joe founded his own business, Joe Hall Construction in 1963. In 1975, Joe and his brother, W.T. Hall, Jr., purchased Jeffrey Lumber and named it Halls Lumber.
A dedicated member, Sunday school teacher, leader and deacon at First Baptist Church of Olton, Joe touched many lives in his 85 years. He compiled countless hours of volunteer service as a participating member of Olton's civic and community organizations: Olton Lions Club, Olton City Council, Olton Volunteer Ambulance Assoc., Community Clinic, Olton Baseball and Softball Assoc., Olton Chamber of Commerce and Agriculture, and Olton Senior Citizens. Joe was recognized as Olton's Man of the Year in 1996, Citizen Through the Years in 2005, and Sandhills Celebration Parade Marshall in 2017.
Joe was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Jo, in 2013, a son-in-law, John Sanford in 2009, three brothers and five sisters.
Survivors include his daughters, Connie Sanford of Dallas and D'Lynne Johnson of Leander and a son-in-law, Alan Johnson. He was blessed with five grandchildren: D'Anna White and husband Jason, Damon Johnson and wife Paige, Joseph Sanford and wife Claire, Justin Sanford, and Jason Sanford and three great-grandchildren: Autumn, Coby, and Hallie Jo.
