Joe Franklin Modawell, 77, of Olton, died Saturday, March 5, 2016, in Olton. Born August 31, 1938, in Santa Anna, Texas, to Clyde and Ima (Spencer) Modawell, Joe moved to Olton in 2006 from Brownwood. Joe served as an air traffic controller in the United States Air Force from 1958 to 1962. A vice-president for several different insurance companies, Joe was a former member of the Optimist Club and Lions Club. He also served on the building committee of the First Baptist Church while living in Celina from 1984-1996.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Ike Modawell.
Survivors include his daughter, Denise Cross Givens and her husband, Dale of Olton, a brother, Bill Modawell and his wife, Janice of Brownwood, a sister, Joyce Kerbow and her husband, Robert of Belton, his aunt, Wilma Joe Frazier of Dallas, two grandchildren, Matthew Cross of Olton and Brandy Monreal of Lubbock, and three great-grandchildren, Sean, Savanna, and Sara.
