Obituary

Joel A. Finney, 77, of Dalhart and formerly of Olton, died Monday, January 26, 2015, in Stratford. Services will be at 2:00 P.M., Thursday, January 29, at the First United Methodist Church in Olton with Brother Rodney Weatherly and Brother Tom Carter officiating.

Joel Augustus Finney was born April 16, 1937, in Plainview, to Galen and Dovie (Hyman) Finney. He graduated from Olton High School in 1955. Joel served in the U.S. Marine Corp for four years and was an expert marksman. On May 23, 1993, he married Sally Clark. Joel was a talented artist and has his murals and paintings displayed in the Olton Sandcrawl Museum, the Wayland Museum, and the Panhandle Plains Museum. A longtime area farmer, Joel moved to Dalhart 17 years ago from Olton and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Dalhart.

He is survived by his wife, Sally of Dalhart, his son, Joe Gus Finney and his wife, Eve of Lubbock, two daughters, JoAnn Moss of Corpus Christie and Julie Allcorn and her husband, Brad of Amarillo, and his sister, Gloria Steele and her husband, Jim of Olton. He was blessed with three grandchildren: Denton Finney, Allison Allcorn, and Bradley Allcorn.
