John A. Jefferies, 79, of Olton, died Monday, August 7, 2017, in Olton. Services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Friday, August 11, 2017, at the First United Methodist Church in Olton with Brother Neely Landrum officiating. Interment will follow at Olton Cemetery under the direction Ramage Funeral Directors. The family will receive friends at Ramage Funeral Directors in Olton from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M., Thursday, August 10.
John was born September 5, 1937, in Olton, to V.Y. and Edyth (Shipley) Jefferies. He graduated from Olton High School in 1955 and went on to earn his bachelors degree from Hardin Simmons in Abilene. John served in the United States Army and married Kay Murray on November 22, 1962. He farmed for many years in the Olton area and was an avid reader. Gun collecting and gunsmithing were some of his favorite things to do. John was an especially talented woodworker, earning numerous first place ribbons from the South Plains Fair and having several pieces displayed in Olton's Sandcrawl Museum.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Scott Jefferies.
Survivors include his son, Brian Jefferies of Olton and two sisters, Doris Murray of Carrollton and Avis Loeffler of Junction.
