IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Jolene
Givens
December 29, 1932 – April 3, 2022
Ida Jolene Givens, long time resident of Olton and then of Flower Mound, died Sunday, April 3 at home with her family in Flower Mound, Texas.
Jolene was born December 29, 1932, in Shallowater, Texas to Louis and Maude Miller. Jolene married K. Y. Givens on May 27, 1950, and they were married 46 years, prior to his death.
Jolene helped her husband establish their business, Givens Texaco, in 1958, and worked alongside him until they closed the business due to K. Y's health issues. She was also the Executive Director of the Olton Housing Authority for many years prior to moving to Flower Mound in 2004 to be closer to her grandchildren.
Jolene was known as Mama Jolene and/or Memaw to her family and friends. Her passion was supporting her daughters Myrle Nelson and Kay Stockdale with their love for sports and teaching. This continued as she was always courtside watching her grandchildren, Craig Nelson and Sherika Nelson, as they played sports and became girls' basketball coaches in Flower Mound. Memaw loved cheering on the Lady Jags of Flower Mound, and was even known at times to give the referees a piece of her mind regarding a call. Her greatest joy was watching her great-granddaughter, Natalie Nelson, grow up and continue the family legacy of loving sports.
A celebration of life will be held in her honor on Monday, April 11 th at 5:00 p.m. at the Trietsch Methodist Church Flower Mound, Texas. Her ashes then will be laid to rest beside her husband, in Olton, Texas, at a later date.
Jolene was preceded in death by her husband, K.Y. Givens, her parents, sister, her son-in- law, Joel Nelson and many nieces and nephews.
Those who will keep her memory close at heart are Myrle Nelson of Flower Mound, Texas, Kay and Freddy Stockdale of Gilbert, Arizona, Sherika Nelson of Little Elm, Texas and Craig, Laura and Natalie Nelson of Argyle, Texas.
