Obituary

J.P. "Jay" Nafzger, 84, of Canyon and formerly of Olton, went to be with Jesus, Saturday, July 25, 2020.  Graveside services will be held at 10:00 AM, Tuesday, July 28, 2020, at Olton Cemetery with Chaplain Stuart Smith officiating and under the direction of Ramage Funeral Directors of Olton. Viewing will be held from 3:00 to 8:00 PM, Monday, July 27, 2020, at Ramage Funeral Directors with the family receiving friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.

Jay was born July 17, 1936, in Plainview, Texas, to Paul and Mildred (Thurman) Nafzger.  He graduated from Olton High School in 1954.  He married Nancy Murray in 1957 and they had two children, Jeff Nafzger and wife Debbie of Nashville, TN, and Pam McFadden of Lubbock.  Jay was a farmer, rancher, and natural cowboy. After a farming career and move to Canyon, Jay married Betty Donnell in 1982 and added two bonus children to the family, Kevin Donnell (now deceased) and Marta Williams of Decatur.  For 20 years, Jay was living the dream by living and working on the Masterson-Stinnett Ranch north of Amarillo.  In his retirement years, Jay followed God's calling by leading Bible studies, group studies, and Sunday school classes.

Jay was preceded in death by his parents, his second wife, Betty, and a son, Kevin Donnell.

Other survivors include two brothers, Don Nafzger of Olton and Carl Nafzger of Louisville, Kentucky.  He was blessed with ten grandchildren: Benjamin Nafzger, Sam Nafzger, Erin Swann and husband Jason, Lindi Tucker and husband Taylor, Stephanie Medina and husband Kalven, Justin Irlbeck and wife Cori, Darren Irlbeck and wife Lindsey, Allen Irlbeck and wife Aimee, Gage Donnell wife Jamie, and Kutter Donnell and wife Tricia and 20 great-grandchildren.

The family would like to express their thanks and appreciation to the Conner Place staff and Encompass Hospice of Amarillo for their care and loving of J.P.
