Juan Manuel Gomez, Sr., 72, of Olton, died Wednesday, November 8, 2023, in Lubbock, Texas. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, November 11, 2023, at New Vision Church in Olton under the direction of Ramage Funeral Directors.  Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Friday, November 10, 2023, at New Vision Church in Olton.

Juan was born March 29, 1951, in Asherton, Texas, to Salvador Sr. and Erminia (Alfaro) Gomez. In 1972, Juan married Elida Mendez.  He moved to Olton in 1997 from Kansas and was a truck driver.  He got excited every year at cotton harvest time because he loved driving the module trucks. When he was younger, he loved hunting rabbits.  A member of New Vision Church, Juan enjoyed singing in church and praising God.  Most of all, Juan loved being a grandfather and spending time with his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a grandson, Rico Manuel Gomez, a brother, Jesus Gomez and a sister, Maria Gloria Rodriguez.

Survivors include his wife, Elida Gomez of Olton, two sons, Juan Gomez, Jr. of Olton and Julian Gomez and wife Brenda of Wichita, Kansas, two brothers, Salvador Gomez, Jr of Elkhart, Kansas and Juan Jose Gomez and wife Maria of Kersey, Colorado, and two sisters, Guadalupe Tapia and husband Gregorio Sr of Asherton, Texas and San Juanita Vasquez of Goodland, Kansas.  He was blessed with seven grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and numerous nieces and nephews.
