Julia M. Payne, 74, of Olton, died Tuesday, August 18, 2009 in Olton. Services will be 11:00 AM, Friday, August 21, 2009, at the First United Methodist Church in Olton with Ken Mott officiating and Harold Dean Carson providing music. Burial will be at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, August 25, 2009 at Oak Grove Christian Church Cemetery in Chatham, VA.

Julia was born June 29, 1935 in Pittsylvania County, Virginia. She married Harold W. Payne August 22, 1953, in Chatham, VA. She moved to Olton in 1975 from Ft. Worth, TX. She and her husband managed the Olton Country Club for nineteen years before she became the activities director for Runningwater Draw Care Center and Sandhills Village Assisted Living Center. She was an elder in the Presbyterian Church and the pianist for Littlefield Presbyterian Church for many years. Julia loved music, NASCAR, and was an avid reader.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold, in 1995.

She is survived by a son, Harold Wallace Payne Jr. and his wife, Debra of McKinney, TX, three daughters, Eleanor Singhas and her husband, Jimmy of Berryville, VA, Margie Aaron and her husband, David of Ft. Worth, TX, and Phyllis Coleman and her husband, Sam of Plainview, TX, and one brother Richard G. Motley of Chatham, VA. She was known affectionately as "P" by her four grandchildren, Blayne and Grant Coleman, Lindey Singhas, and Mason Payne.
