IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Justina Flores
Lucero
April 14, 1932 – February 14, 2024
Justina Lucero, 91, of Hale Center, a devoted wife, caring mother, and grandmother, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 14, 2024, in Odessa, Texas. She leaves behind a legacy of love, compassion, and unwavering dedication that will forever be cherished by her family and all who knew her.
Born in 1932, Justina, lovingly called "Josie", was born in Brady, Texas and raised in Hale Center by her father Manuel Flores and stepmother Antonia Flores. Josie's birth mother, Consuelo Serrano Flores, died when Josie was a young child. From a young age, she exhibited a strong work ethic and a nurturing spirit - traits that would shape her life and touch the hearts of those she encountered.
In her early thirties, Josie met the love of her life, Louis Lucero, and they embarked on a journey of love and companionship in 1963 that would span 39 years. Louis proposed to Justina while dancing to "It's Now or Never" by Elvis Presley. Their marriage was a testament to the power of unwavering support and unconditional love. Through thick and thin, Josie and Louis shared a bond that was unbreakable, providing an example of a steadfast partnership that inspired all who knew them.
Beyond her role as a devoted wife, Josie found immense joy and fulfillment in motherhood. Her son, Jodie, was the light of her life, and she poured her heart and soul into raising him with love, care, and guidance. Josie's nurturing nature and endless patience created a warm and welcoming home, where Jodie thrived and learned invaluable life lessons.
As a grandmother, affectionately known as "Granny Josie" to her beloved granddaughter, Tai, Josie's heart expanded even further. She showered Tai with unconditional love, spoiling her with affection and the occasional sweet treat. Granny J's presence in Tai's life was a source of comfort and guidance, and their bond will forever be cherished.
But Josie's love extended beyond her immediate family. As a housekeeper, she touched the lives of many families throughout her career. Her professional demeanor, attention to detail, and kind-hearted nature endeared her to all she worked for. Josie's dedication to her craft was evident in the meticulously maintained homes she cared for, and her clients often remarked on her warm personality and the genuine care she brought to her work.
Outside of her professional life, Josie had a variety of hobbies and interests. She enjoyed attending church, playing cards at the Hale Center Senior Citizens Center, sewing, going to lunch with friends, working puzzle books, and watching Hallmark Movies and The Price is Right.
Josie is preceded in death by her husband, Louis Lucero, sister Elizabeth "Chavela" Martinez, sister, Betty Lou Martinez, and brother Manuel Flores. She will be deeply missed by her loving son, Jodie and wife Shea Lucero of Odessa, granddaughter, Tai Lopez-Lucero and husband Diego Lopez of San Antonio, brother, Rudy and wife Helen Flores of Amarillo, sister, Mary Lou Flores of Maryland, numerous nieces and nephews and all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her unwavering love, selflessness, and nurturing spirit will continue to inspire and guide us in our lives.
Rosary will be said at 6:00 p.m., Thursday, February 22, 2024, at St. Theresa's Catholic Church in Hale Center. Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Friday, February 23, 2024, at St. Theresa's Catholic Church with Fr. Alex Ambrose officiating. Interment will follow at Hale Center Cemetery under the care of Ramage Funeral Directors. Visitation will be held from 12:00 to 5:00 p.m., Thursday, February 22, at Ramage Funeral Directors in Hale Center. We invite all those who knew and loved Josie to join us in celebrating her remarkable journey and bidding her farewell.
Though our hearts are heavy with grief, let us find solace in the knowledge that Josie's spirit will forever live on in our hearts and memories. May she rest in eternal peace, knowing she made an indelible impact on the lives she touched.
"Those we love don't go away; they walk beside us every day. Unseen, unheard, but always near, still loved, still missed, and very dear."
