Obituary
Landon Smith, 77, of Olton, died Saturday, June 24, 2017, in Plainview. Services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Tuesday, June 27, 2017, at the First Baptist Church in Olton with Brother Kyle Streun and Brother David Azam officiating. Interment will follow at Olton Cemetery under the direction of Ramage Funeral Directors. The family will receive friends at Ramage Funeral Directors in Olton from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M., Monday, June 26, 2017.
Landon was born July 31, 1939, in Childress, Texas to W.C. "Shorty" and Bonnie Lee (Miller) Smith. He grew up in Tell, Texas and went to school at High Point until his family moved to Olton in 1953. Graduating from Olton High School in 1957, Landon was saved at Valley View Church in June of 1960. On December 7, 1958, he married Sharon Copeland and they were married for 58 years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church serving as a deacon since 1979 and former youth leader. Landon was very community minded and served on the Olton Coop Gin board, the Stock Show board, and the PCCA board. He was named Olton's Man of the Year, Citizen Through the Years and received the Friend of the 4-H and Silver Spur awards in 4-H. Landon also loved baseball, serving as Little League Commissioner and coach for many years.
Landon was preceded in death by his parents, W.C. "Shorty" Smith in 2009 and Bonnie Lee Miller Smith in 1978, and a daughter, Kelli Alana Smith in 2003.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Sharon Smith of Olton, his son, Rodney Smith and wife Nikki of Olton, his daughter, Londi Blackwell and husband Tory of Muleshoe, and two brothers, Waymond Smith of Lubbock and Joe Bob Smith and wife Joyce of Daingerfield. He was blessed with five grandchildren: Summer Daniels and husband Kirk of Amarillo, Jake Blackwell of Muleshoe, Kylon Blackwell of Lubbock, Kaytlin Smith of Amarillo, and Kade Smith of Canyon.
The family suggest memorials be made to the Olton Volunteer Ambulance Association P.O. Box 1087 Olton, Texas 79064 or the Olton Cemetery Association P.O. Box 1055 Olton, Texas 79064.
