Larry "Uncle Larry" Lopez, 65, of Olton, died Thursday, July 14, 2011 in Lubbock. Memorial services will be 2:00 P.M., Tuesday, July 19, 2011 at the First Baptist Church in Olton with Brother David Azam and Mr. Joe Carrasco officiating and under the direction of Ramage Funeral Directors.
Larry was born June 1, 1946 in Bexar County, Texas to Luis and Petra Guzman Lopez. He served in the U.S. Army in Vietnam and received numerous medals including the Army Commendation Medal. He was a longtime area resident and a member of the First Baptist Church. On September 15, 1979, he married Carmen Amaya in Olton. He was a dedicated volunteer and asset to the community. He was one of the first emergency medical care attendents when the Olton Volunteer Ambulance Association was formed in 1979. A police officer for fifteen years, he also volunteered for the Olton Volunteer Fire Department. He was the Den Leader and then the Assistant Scout Master for Pack 220. He also enjoyed coaching peewee baseball and later coached softball.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Lupe Lopez in 2011.
Survivors include his wife, Carmen Lopez of Olton, two sons, Johnny J.Lopez and his wife, Trina of Levelland, and Jimmy D. Lopez of Olton, five brothers, Louis Lopez and his wife, Linda of Olton, E.G. Lopez and his wife, Runi of Spade, Ray Lopez and his wife, Jeannie of Olton, Henry Lopez and his wife, Pam of Stamford, and Leroy Lopez and his wife, Christina of Olton, and a sister, Marilyn Lopez of Olton. He was blessed with four grandchildren.
