Larry "Pop" Manuel, 77, of Canyon and formerly of Olton, died Wednesday, May 29, 2024, in Amarillo, Texas. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, June 3, 2024, at Olton Cemetery, with Pastor Travis Evers of Christ Family Fellowship Church, in Canyon, officiating and under the care of Ramage Funeral Directors. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Sunday, June 2, 2024, at Ramage Funeral Directors, in Olton.
Larry was born May 20, 1947, in Olney, Texas, to William and Minnie (Smith) Manuel. He graduated from Throckmorton High School in 1965 and attended Texas Tech, graduating with a Bachelors in Ag Education, in 1969. Larry became an ag teacher and taught for Olton ISD from 1969 to 1973 and Spade ISD from 1973 to 1975. On May 4, 1972, Larry married Billie Jean LaDuke and they were married over 52 years. Larry's life revolved around stock shows and show animals. He traveled the country going to pig sales to bring home for the kids to show. Moving to Canyon in 1996, Larry started raising show goats and did so until 2022. Larry also enjoyed attending Randall Raider and West Texas A&M sporting events, especially if the events involved his grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Minnie Manuel, two brothers, O.C. Manuel and Hershell Manuel, two sisters, Reba Mahler and LaVerne McCarson, and a great-granddaughter, Maclay Carson.
Survivors include his wife, Billie Manuel of Canyon, son, Lynn Wilkinson of Canyon, daughters, Judy Redinger and husband Ronald of Olton and Patti Field and husband Mike of Amarillo, two brothers, Jerry Manuel and Lyndal Manuel, both of Elbert, Texas, and two sisters, Beth Frost of Elbert, Texas and LaQuita Kee of Amarillo. He was blessed with five grandchildren: Colt Redinger, Ronna Carson and husband Stephen, Kylie Redinger, Andi Shoulders and husband Jason, and Kori Cates and husband Brandon and ten great-grandchildren.
The family suggests memorials be made to the Olton Cemetery Association PO Box 1055 Olton, Texas 79064.
