Lester Glenn Carr, 90, of Hale Center, died Sunday, October 27, 2024, in Amarillo, Texas.  Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, October 31, 2024, at the First Baptist Church, in Hale Center, with Rev. Taylor Smith and Mr. Keith Bearden, officiating. Interment will follow at Hale Center Cemetery under the direction of Ramage Funeral Directors.  The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 30, 2024, at Ramage Funeral Directors, in Hale Center.

Lester was born March 29, 1934, in Coleman, Texas, to Lewis and Eldridge (Paxton) Carr. He graduated from Coleman High School and moved to Houston to work.  During his time in Houston, Lester became involved in church and that is where he was saved and took Jesus into his heart.  He attended Wayland Baptist College, graduating in 1957 and later earning his Masters from East Texas State.  While at Wayland, Lester met the love of his life, Bernice Alexander. The two married in 1955, in Oregon, and were married over 69 years.

Lester and Bernice settled in Hale Center where she was a teacher.  He became the science and biology teacher at the middle school. For the next 44 years, Lester devoted his time, energy, and love to his students.  He didn't just teach in the classroom. He took students to many science fairs and trips to White Sands, Carlsbad, and Big Bend.  Model rocket experiments, bug collections, photography, and keyboarding were activities implemented by Mr. Carr. His passion for teaching and love for his students had an impact on thousands of lives and upon his retirement in 2002, the middle school was dedicated to him and renamed "Carr Middle School".

Lester had many interests outside of school. He loved to fish, travel to National Parks, bird watch, and was a Boy Scout Leader for kids and adults.  A member of the First Baptist Church, Lester taught Sunday School for many years.  He was a Shakespeare fan and attended many Shakespeare festivals. A very creative man, Lester loved to paint and make mosaics that adorned his backyard.  He was dedicated to his community, served at Mission Hale Center for many years, and taught GED classes after he retired.  Lester made an impact on many lives and will be missed by all who loved him.

Lester was preceded in death by his parents, Lewis and Eldridge Carr, three brothers, Clarence, David, and Lewis Jr., and a sister, Daisy Mae.

Survivors include his wife, Bernice Carr of Hale Center, his son, Steve Carr and wife Lana of Burleson, and two daughters, Cheryl Waldrop of Amarillo and Diane Woodward and husband Ric of Denton.  He was blessed with six grandchildren: Chris Waldrop, Beau Waldrop, Hilary Carr, Jonathan Carr, Ryan Woodward, and Katie Sieben and seven great-grandchildren: Evelyn, Jordan, Brayden, Patrick, Chase, Nash, and Avery.

The family suggests memorials be made to the American Heart Association at www.heart.org.
