Marcus Robert Ramage, 82, of Odessa, died Saturday, February 8, 2025, at his home surrounded by his family, in Odessa, Texas. Memorial services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Monday, February 24, 2025, at Highland United Methodist Church, in Odessa, with Pastor Jon Hendricks and Reverend Dustin S. Burrow officiating and under the care of Ramage Funeral Directors.
Marc was born July 12, 1942, in Littlefield, Texas, to Robert and Kathleen (Brewer) Ramage. He grew up on a farm, in Spade, Texas and graduated as valedictorian from Spade High School in 1960. He attended McMurry College where he was a member and the Grand Sovereign of KoSari social club and graduated with his bachelor's degree in math and business in 1965. While at McMurry, Marc met the love of his life, Sandy Carlisle, and they married August 22, 1964, in Plainview. For over the next 60 years, Marc and Sandy did life together while working and raising a beautiful family.
Marc and Sandy moved to Odessa in 1965 and he became a math teacher at Odessa High School. Summers were spent in Laramie, Wyoming, from 1968 to 1972, while Marc attended the University of Wyoming earning his master's degree. Marc was an administrator for Odessa High School for the next 40 years and was instrumental in developing many of the programs still used today. He was named Odessa High's Administrator of the Year in 2000 and Ector County ISD Administrator of the Year in 2005. Marc was the longtime supervisor of the east side of Ratliff Stadium and registrar for the West Texas Relays. In 2001, Marc was named the honorary referee of the West Texas Relays. He was also named the Outstanding Alumnus in Math and Science for McMurry University in 2024.
Marc had a servant's heart. He was a longtime member of Highland United Methodist Church where he served on every committee possible over the years. He also served on the McMurry University Alumni Board, the Sacramento Camping Conference Center board, the Odessa Retired Teachers Association, and the Region 18 Education Service Center board.
Marc was a jack of all trades and talented woodworker and builder. He enjoyed traveling and spending time with family. His grandchildren were his life and his favorite job was being PaPaw.
Marc was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Kathleen Ramage, a son, John Ramage, a granddaughter, Kaitlyn Ramage, a brother, Richard Ramage, and a sister, Linda Parker.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Sandy Ramage of Odessa, two sons, James Ramage and wife Stephanne of Odessa, and Jason Ramage and wife Cathy of Whitewright, a daughter, Janet Lankford and husband Scott of Amarillo, one brother, Charles Ramage and wife Fran of Olton, a sister, Carolyn Holcombe and husband Wendell of Kilgore, and a sister-in-law, Catherine Ramage of Papillion, NE. He was blessed with ten grandchildren: Cassidy Ray and husband Blake, Tyler Ramage, Hayden Ramage, Austin Powell and wife Taylor, Ethan Powell, Kelsey Lloyd and husband Landry, Carly Merritt and husband Casey, Clay Lankford and wife Darbi, Jack Lankford, and Luke Lankford and six great-grandchildren: Bayne, Benjamin, Henry, Wyatt, Brant, and Beckett.
