Maria Cordero, 96, of Olton, died Saturday, November 2, 2013, in Olton. Rosary will be said at 7:00 P.M., Sunday, November 3, at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Olton. Mass will be celebrated at 2:00 P.M., Monday, November 4, at St. Peter's Catholic Church with Fr. John Smith as celebrant. Interment will follow at Olton Cemetery under the direction of Ramage Funeral Directors.
Maria was born February 24, 1917 in Melvin, Texas to Apolonio and Sapopa Rodriguez Luera. She married Doroteo Cordero in 1945 in Plainview and moved to Olton in 1947. As a member of the Guadalupanas and the Crusillistas, Mary was very active at St. Peter's Catholic Church. She loved to help people and volunteered at Runningwater Draw Care Center.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Doroteo, in 2006, a grandson, Tomas Hernandez in 1984, one brother, and three sisters.
Survivors include three sons, Doel Cordero and his wife, Hilary of Dumas, Doroteo Cordero, Jr. and his wife, Margie of Edinburg, and David Munos and his wife, Lucy of Lubbock, two daughters, Rosalinda Hernandez of McAllen and Dorothy LaFuente and her husband, Pete of Brady, one brother, Apolonio Luera, Jr. of Olton, and four sisters, Jessie Valles of San Angelo, Delia Balderama of Ft. Worth, Sally Pedroza of Olton, and Josephine Gonzales of Ft. Worth. She was blessed with 15 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
