Mary O. Collins, 81, of Olton, died Tuesday, March 10, 2009, in Lubbock. Services will be at 2:00 P.M., Friday, March 13, at the First Baptist Church in Olton with Brother Patrick Hamilton and Rev. Ronnie Newton officiating. Interment will follow at Olton Cemetery under the direction of Ramage Funeral Directors.
Mary was born September 14, 1927, in Jones County, Texas to Lawson and E.V. Newton. She married Royce Collins December 31, 1947, in Hawley, Texas and moved to Olton in 1949. She was an active member of First Baptist Church and taught Sunday school for many years.
Mary was a great seamstress and loved making all types of crafts. She was known for her decorating talent and enjoyed decorating for all holidays. She was always baking food and cookies to take to people in the community.
Mary is survived by her husband, Royce Collins of Olton, one son, Danny Collins and his wife, Quenette of Olton, one daughter, Leisa Lewis of Amarillo, two brothers, Jack Newton, and Ralph Newton and his wife Fern of Amarillo, a foster brother, Clois Snell and his wife, Peggy of Coahoma, TX, three sisters, LaVoyce Giles of Abilene, Loretta McBeath and her husband, Kenneth of Hamby, TX, and Barbara Lambert of Hawley, TX. She was blessed with four grandchildren, LaDanda Kaufman, Casey Collins, Dustin Lewis, and Kody Lewis, and four great grandchildren. She also had a host of nephews and nieces.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Elbert "Slick" Newton, and a sister, Margey Ruth Godfrey.
