Obituary

Mary Evans Johnson, 87, of Olton and formerly of Plainview, went to be with her Lord on Friday, January 16, 2015. Services will be at 2:00 P.M., Monday, January 19, at the First Baptist Church in Olton with Brother David Azam officiating and assisted by Mr. Mark Gunter. Interment will follow at Plainview Memorial Park in Plainview under the direction of Ramage Funeral Directors of Olton.

Mary was born December 26, 1927, at Brice, Texas to M.O. and Ladelle Evans. She attended schools at Lakeview, moved to Skellytown at age 16, and graduated from White Deer High School in 1945 as valedictorian of her class. She attended Wayland Baptist College. She met and later married Ershel Johnson of Olton on July 17, 1946, in Skellytown, where her father, Brother M.O. Evans, married them. Mary and Ershel farmed eight miles northeast of Olton. Mary and Ershel were blessed with three daughters, Barbara, Shirley, and Cynthia, and one son, Steve. Mary moved to Plainview in the late 70's. She was employed by the Pink Lady Auxiliary, Plainview Community Hospital and Dr. Tony Loggins' Clinic. She concluded her working years at Dr. Vincent DiPaolo's office and then retired at the age of 79. She moved to Olton to be near her family in 2013. Mary was a devoted member of First Baptist Church of Olton and First Baptist Church of Plainview. Mary's passion was spending time with her large family. She also loved to travel, grow beautiful flowers, and cook delicious treats.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Ershel Johnson in 2007, her only brother, Jimmie Evans, and her son-in-law, Sam Roden, Jr.

Survivors include her daughters, Barbara Roden of Ft. Worth, Shirley Burleson and her husband, Steve of Tahoka, and Cynthia Gunter and her husband, Mark of Olton, and her son, Steve Johnson and his wife, Donice of Olton. She was blessed with nine grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandson, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Olton, the First Baptist Church of Plainview, or the First Baptist Church of Perryton Lesotho Africa Mission Fund P.O. Box 1272 Perryton, Texas 79070.

The family will receive friends at Ramage Funeral Directors in Olton from 4:00 to 6:00 P.M., Sunday, January 18, 2015.
