Mary Lou Rastetter, 81, of San Angelo and formerly of Hale Center, died Saturday, July 22, 2023, in San Angelo, Texas. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, July 29, 2023, at Hale Center Cemetery, with Brother Emmitt Corker officiating and under the direction of Ramage Funeral Directors. The family will receive friends from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m., Saturday, July 29, 2023, at Ramage Funeral Directors in Hale Center.
Mary Lou was born March 21, 1942, in Acuff, Texas, to D R and Cleva (Stewart) Chapman. She graduated from Hale Center High School in 1960 where she was named All-State in basketball after the Owlettes were runners up at the state championship. On June 25, 1960, Mary Lou married the love of her life, Roy Rastetter. A member of Hale Center Methodist Church, Mary Lou worked as a bookkeeper and prepared taxes at H&R Block. She taught and coached Little Dribblers in Hale Center for many years and also taught tennis at the Lubbock Racquet Club. In 1984, she and Roy moved to Carrollton, Texas and then to San Angelo in 2020. While in Carrollton, Mary Lou was a member of a Women's over 50 tennis team where they won many awards, including the national championship. Not only did she excel in basketball in her younger years and tennis throughout the years, Mary Lou excelled in golf in her later years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, D R and Cleva Chapman, a brother, Donald Chapman and a sister, Wynelle Perry.
Survivors include her husband, Roy Rastetter of San Angelo, her son, Tony Rastetter and his wife Karen of San Angelo and two brothers, Jerry Chapman of Lubbock and Michael Chapman of Ft. Worth. She was blessed with two grandchildren, Rebecca Perkins and Joshua Rastetter and his wife Lauren and two great-grandchildren, Layla and Jade Rastetter.
