Mary was born March 7, 1939, in San Antonio, Texas, to Lloyd and Myrtle (Taylor) Stephens. She graduated from Hale Center High School in 1957. She married T.L. Wright in 1957, and they shared 35 years together until his passing in 1992. In 1996, she married Tom Garrison, and they continued to build a life rooted in faith, service, and family.

Mary worked as a Licensed Vocational Nurse for over 20 years at High Plains Hospital in Hale Center, where she faithfully cared for her patients with compassion and dedication. She also served as the Hale Center City Secretary for over eight years. A longtime member of First Baptist Church in Hale Center and Tulia, she was deeply involved in church activities and hosted a local cable television ministry, Joy Comes In The Morning. She was active in Bible studies at Raider Ranch and enjoyed playing bingo there as well. Mary generously supported Shriners, St. Jude Children’s Hospital, and Jerusalem Community Baptist Church, among others.

She loved to travel and proudly visited all the states bordering the Mississippi River and those to the west. She was a wonderful baker who delighted friends and family with her treats, and she was known for her thoughtful handwritten birthday and Christmas cards. Mary cherished her family and treasured every gathering and celebration.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, T.L. Wright; a stepson, Hubert Wright; a granddaughter, Nikki Wright; a grandson, Kyle Lister Trahan; two sisters, Ned and Grace; and two brothers, Slim and George.
