Ollie R. Ross, 81, of Olton, died Sunday, September 1, 2024, in Lubbock, Texas. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, September 5, 2024, at Muleshoe Fellowship, in Muleshoe, with Steve Friskup officiating. Interment will follow at Muleshoe Memorial Park Cemetery under the care of Ramage Funeral Directors. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, September 4, at Ramage Funeral Directors, in Olton.
Ollie was born May 13, 1943, in Muleshoe, Texas, to Dewey and Audrey (Carter) Ross. He attended schools in Muleshoe and studied automatic transmissions at Transmission School in Dallas, graduating in 1963. He married Lydia Kane and they made their home in Olton in 1963. Ollie worked for Gray's Garage in Olton and then for Olton ISD, where he was the transportation and bus director from 1972 to 1995. Driving the bus for many kids over the years, Ollie enjoyed driving the kids to field trips, band trips, and working wherever he was needed. A member of Muleshoe Fellowship, Ollie enjoyed water skiing, snow skiing, camping, and fishing. Spending time in Ruidoso and Hobbs, playing dominos, penny anti poker, collecting coins and hunting for arrowheads were also some of Ollie's favorite things to do. He was a kid at heart, who was known as a prankster and was as ornery as they come.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Lydia Ross in 1984, three sons, Clint Ross, Royce Ross, and Shay Ross, two brothers, Don Ross and Larry Ross, a sister, Gwen Ross, and a great-granddaughter, Jenna Lane.
Ollie is survived by his daughters, Chona Ross of Plainview and Fonda Ross of San Angelo and a sister, Della Brown of Muleshoe. He was blessed with 11 grandchildren: Tiffany Morphis and husband Clay, Tandy Lane and husband Blake, Ryan Ross, Samantha Bankston, Tantha Richards and husband Grant, Mason Ty Lopez and wife Briana, Dakota Cross, Caitlin Ross, Sadie Ross, Sydnie Ross, and Olivia Ross and 12 great-grandchildren.
The family suggests memorials be made to the Olton Cemetery Association PO Box 1055 Olton, Texas 79064.
