Robert Dickenson (Dick) LeMond, 90, of Hale Center, died Sunday, October 24, 2021, in Lubbock, Texas. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, October 26, 2021, at the First United Methodist Church in Hale Center with Rev. Jimmy Cameron officiating. Interment will follow at Hale Center Cemetery under the direction of Ramage Funeral Directors. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m., Monday, October 25, 2021, at Ramage Funeral Directors in Hale Center.
Dick was born November 13, 1930, in Hale Center, Texas, to Howard and Carabel LeMond. Raised by his step-father, Murray Payne and his mom Carabel, he was the grandson of pioneer settlers of Hale Center. After graduating from Hale Center High School, he attended Texas Tech and remained a loyal fan of the university his entire life. He served his country in the United States Army and saw action as a tank commander in the Korean War. While in Fort Hood Boot Camp, he participated with his battalion in an atomic bomb test at Yucca Flats, Nevada. Although, the Korean War experience was not something he had relished, it was an experience of which he was grateful and proud of his service.
On June 26, 1954, Dick married the love of his life, LuAnn McBeth, in Hale Center and they were married over 67 years. He was involved with his step-father, Murray Payne, in a wholesale gasoline-butane business. He then became the Texaco consignee in Hale Center. He enlarged his business to include LeMond Farm Store and LeMond Farms. A life long member of Hale Center First United Methodist Church, he had served on the City Council, Volunteer Fire Department, and was a member of the Hale Center Lions Club. He was a licensed pilot and had flown many children to the Lion's Club Crippled Children Camp.
Dick was preceded in death by his sister, Constance LeMond, in 2005.
Survivors include his wife, LuAnn LeMond of Hale Center, his son, Mike LeMond and his wife Julie of San Antonio and his daughter, Lynn Sims and her husband Jackie of Hale Center. He was blessed with seven grandchildren: Lauren Sims Brownd and her husband Greg of Shallowater, Haley LeMond Worley and her husband Kevin of Lubbock, Tracey LeMond Folwell and her husband Jared of San Antonio, Angie Sims McNeely and her husband Chad of Midland, Chance Alldredge and his wife Alise of Houston, Christen Alldredge Wommack and her husband George of San Antonio, and Brett Alldredge and his wife Natalie of Midland and 16 great-grandchildren: Paisleigh, Abigail, Madeleine, Anna, Gage, MacKenna, Casey, Avary, Elle, True, Tripp, Caroline, Henry, Charlotte, David, and Graham.
The family suggests memorials be made to the First United Methodist Church PO Box 1258 Hale Center, Texas 79041.
