Roger Lee Russell, Jr., 65, of Olton, died Thursday, April 25, 2024, in Lubbock, Texas. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, May 3, 2024, at Olton Methodist Church, with Brother Kyle Brock, Pastor Tom Carter, and Rev. Edward Louis Watters, officiating. Interment will follow at Plainview Cemetery in Plainview under the direction of Ramage Funeral Directors. Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. with the family receiving friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, May 2, 2024, at Ramage Funeral Directors, in Olton.
Roger was born November 19, 1958, in Plainview, Texas, to Roger Sr. and Lucy Mae (Phylow) Russell. A lifetime Olton resident, Roger graduated from Olton High School in 1978. On March 1, 1979, Roger married Cindy Williams and they were married over 45 years. Roger was a farmer and he thoroughly enjoyed working. He was a jack of all trades and loved horses. A man with a big heart who gave freely, Roger never expected anything in return. He had a wonderful sense of humor and enjoyed talking and visiting with friends and family alike. Most of all, Roger loved spending time with his family and especially loved his granddaughter, Margo.
Roger was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Leanne Russell, in 1998, two brothers, Charles Russell and Tommy Russell, and a sister, Maelouise Russell.
Survivors include his wife, Cindy Russell of Olton, his son, Payton Russell of Lubbock, two daughters, Keashla Samford and husband Tim of Lubbock and Chontell Hopkins and husband Wes of Ashdown, Arkansas, four brothers, David Russell of Springlake, Alfred Russell of Olton, Gary Russell of Plainview, and Kevin Russell of Arlington, and five sisters, Doris McGee of Plainview, Mary Nwagbara of Aubrey, Jennifer Baker of Aubrey, Doris S. Russell of Amarillo, and Lisa Russell of Plainview. He was blessed with two granddaughters, Margo Pena and Madison Samford.
The family suggests memorials be made to the Olton Volunteer Ambulance Association PO Box 1087 Olton, Texas 79064.
