Sammy was born January 26, 1957, in La Junta, Colorado, to Louis and Carmen (Reyna) Gonzales. He was a lifetime area resident, being raised in Hart, Texas and started to commute back and forth to Olton when he was 15 years old. A hard worker all his life, Sammy began working at the age of 13. He started at Hill Feedlot in Hart and then moved to Bill Hill Produce in Olton. He also worked for Rising Hills Inc. in Olton, Allan Freeman of Seagraves, CSS Potato Farms in Olton, and currently worked for the City of Olton. In 1984, Sammy married Marie Sylvia Ruiz in Olton.
If you ask his close family, Sammy was a jack of all trades. Besides being an excellent and knowledgeable farmer, he was a talented welder, plumber, mechanic, builder, just to name a few. He was known for being a jokester, making people laugh, and always being ready to lend a helping hand to anyone who needed it, whether it be for his family, his close friends, or fellow farmers. He enjoyed starting his mornings with his coffee, a pastry, listening to his favorite songs, and reading his bible before heading off to work. His children were his pride and joy and then came the grandchildren who were even more special than ever and whom he loved to play and spend time with. Gone too soon, Sammy will be missed dearly by all those who loved and knew him.
He was preceded in death by his father, Louis Gonzales, in March of 1991.
Survivors include his mother, Carmen Gonzales of Hart, his wife, Sylvia Gonzales of Olton, his son, Sammy Gonzales, Jr. of Olton, six daughters, Rosalinda Carrasco and husband Ismael of Hart, Veronica Lopez and husband Jesse of Plainview, Melinda Sanchez and husband Matt of Victoria, Jacquie Fuentes of Austin, Samantha Ronquillo and husband Oscar of Ft. Stockton, and Alex Gonzales of Hart, three brothers, Louis Gonzales and wife Mary Jane of Olton, Ernest Alcala and wife Sandra of Hale Center, and Ismeal Gonzales of Hart, and five sisters, Sylvia Velasquez and husband Floyd of Hart, Eva Phillips of Plainview, Diana Holguin of Hart, Mimi Isaguirre and husband Leon of Hart, and Angelica Ramirez and husband Paul of Hart. He was blessed with 15 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
