IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Uil Loros
Gunter
March 11, 1933 – August 13, 2023
Uil Loros Gunter, 90, of Amarillo and formerly of Olton, died Sunday, August 13, 2023, in Amarillo, Texas. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, September 16, 2023, at the First Baptist Church in Olton. Interment will follow at Olton Cemetery under the direction of Ramage Funeral Directors.
Uil was born March 11, 1933, at his home on the ranch in Elida, New Mexico, to William Carey and Helena Boone (Bryan) Gunter. He graduated from Olton High School in 1950 and attended West Texas College for a year before beginning his farming career. On January 18, 1953, Uil married the love of his life, Fern Carson and they were married over 70 years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Olton where he served as a deacon, Sunday School teacher, and choir member for many years. A fine example of what a Christian and family man should be, Uil loved reading his Bible and enjoying nature. Farming until the age of 83, Uil also served the Olton community in many ways, including time on the Olton ISD school board and the Olton Grain Coop board. He was a gentle and caring man and cherished the time he spent with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His family meant the world to him and he will be dearly missed.
Uil was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, W.C. Gunter, Gene Howe Gunter, Herbert Gunter, and Lee Gunter and two sisters, Lorene Gunter and Callie Combest.
Survivors include his wife, Fern Gunter of Amarillo, son, Kent Gunter and wife Alice of Denton and a daughter, Jennie Lynn Hodges and husband Mark of Amarillo. He was blessed with four grandchildren: Heather Hodges Bradshaw and husband Todd of Amarillo, Harlan Hodges and wife Kelly of Los Angeles, California, Jenabeth Gunter Morgan of Denton, and Kenli Gunter of Orlando, Florida and five great-grandchildren: Emersyn, Brooks, Elle, Eric, and Shepherd.
The family suggests memorials be made to a favorite ministry.
