Valentin V. Leon, IV, 82, of Hale Center, died Monday, March 29, 2021, in Plainview. A memorial mass will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, April 6, 2021, at St. Theresa's Catholic Church in Hale Center with Fr. Jacob Powell officiating and under the direction of Ramage Funeral Directors.
Valentin was born November 17, 1938, in Creedmoor, Texas, to Valentin and Juanita (Moreno) Leon. Moving to Hale Center in 1952, Valentin was a talented baseball player and loved the New York Yankees. He married Olga Martinez on October 1, 1966. Valentin was a farmer and member of St. Theresa's Catholic Church. He was heavily involved in the church where he served as an usher and was a member of the Sagrado Corazon. A talented musician, Valentin enjoyed singing and playing the accordion. Family was very important to Valentin and Sundays were reserved for the family to get together.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Olga Leon, in 2013, and a sister, Florinda Barritero.
Survivors include two sons, Adrian Leon and wife Cindy of Lubbock and Jamie Leon and wife Jessica of Hale Center, daughter, Debra Sanchez and husband Joe of Plainview, one brother, Margarito Leon of Wiggins, CO, and five sisters, Josie Lopez of Hale Center, Dominga Hooks of Hale Center, Juanita Castilleja of Oceano, CA, Maria Alejandrez of Fresno, CA, and Chela Lathbury of Lockport, NY. He was blessed with 10 grandchildren and one great-grandson.
