Valera Young, 90, of Olton, died Thursday, August 6, 2009, in Lubbock. Services will be 3:00, Monday, August 10, 2009 at Main Street Church of Christ in Olton. Interment will follow at Olton Cemetery under the direction of Ramage Funeral Directors.

Valera was born May 30, 1919 in Clyde, Texas. She married Emmett Young, June 6, 1936, in Terry County. She was a long time Olton resident and a member of Main Street Church of Christ. Mrs. Young was a homemaker, but loved working alongside her husband on the farm. She was an avid game player and loved watching all sports on television.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Emmett, in 2004, a daughter, Wynne Lee Hyman in 1993, two grandchildren, and one great grandchild.

She is survived by a son, Lennon Young and his wife, Linda of Olton, two daughters, Doreen Young of Olton and Marilyn Perrin and her husband, J.V. of Amarillo, two brothers, R.A. Vestal of Morton and Ovis Vestal of Elgin, TX, five sisters, Vivian Nebhut of Morton, Janet Sikes of San Diego, CA, Delores Drake of Littlefield, Pearlene Glasrud of Seguin, and Fern Pirett of Laurel, Maryland. Valera was also blessed with seven grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandson.
