Obituary

Vernon Britton, 91, of Olton, died Wednesday, February 27, 2013, in Lubbock. Graveside services will be at 3:00 P.M., Saturday, March 2, 2013 at Olton Cemetery under the direction of Ramage Funeral Directors.

Vernon was born March 30, 1921, in Wilson, Oklahoma to W.K. and Ellen Hester Britton. He served in the Army Air Corps as a radar technician on B-2 bombers during World War II. Vernon married Mildred Davis on December 23, 1946 and they lived in Lubbock, Dalhart, and Dumas before moving to Olton in 1952. He was a farmer and retired in 1993. Active in the First Baptist Church, Vernon was also involved with 4-H, Cub Scouts, and Webelos.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred, in 2010, five brothers, and three sisters.

Vernon is survived by three sons, David Britton and his wife, Kathy of Pueblo West, CO, Kevin Britton and his wife, Katy of Edmund, OK, and Pat Britton and his wife, Kim of Longview, his daughter, Nancy Schilling and her husband, Tom of Lubbock, two brothers, Roy Britton of France and Harold Britton of Earth, and his sister, Maxine Meharg of Florida. He was blessed with six grandchildren: Kris Britton, Melissa Ritchey, Matthew Britton, Brian Britton, Julie Britton, and Shasti Schilling and three great-grandchildren: Ashlyn, J.T., and Hunter.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to the Runningwater Draw Care Center P.O. Box 409 Olton, TX 79064.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M., Friday, March 1, 2013.
