Obituary

W.B. Dickenson, Jr., 89, of Olton, died Friday, January 12, 2018, at his home in Olton.  Services will be at 2:00 P.M., Monday, January 15, 2018, at the First Baptist Church in Olton with Mr. Mike Wilcox officiating.  Interment will follow at Olton Cemetery under the direction of Ramage Funeral Directors.  The family will receive friends at Ramage Funeral Directors in Olton from 5:00-7:00 P.M., Sunday, January 14, 2018.

W.B. was born December 19, 1928, in Olton, to Willie Ben and Leona (Lundy) Dickenson.  To say that farming, ranching, and livestock was his lifelong passion is truly an understatement.  W.B. loved Olton and had a servant's heart.  He served his community by being the Olton Sandhills Parade organizer for 36 years and the Olton Junior Livestock Association auctioneer for the past 57 consecutive years.  He could always be found at every cake auction fundraiser in town.  A member of the First Baptist Church, his family was founding members of the church.  W.B. married Margie Copeland on January 7, 1982 and they currently reside on the old homestead place where he was born.  To many, W.B. was known as a true horse whisperer and until his illness was found checking and doctoring cattle with his beloved horse, "Little Doc".  W.B. was influential in raising multi-generations and made everyone feel like a valued family member.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Billie Jean Dickenson, in 1980, and two brothers, B.A. Dickenson and Herbert (Brownie) Dickenson.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Margie Dickenson of Olton, two sons, Gary Dickenson and his wife Sue of Lockhart, and Jimmy Mandrell and his wife Jocy of Olton, and two daughters, Dr. Chesna James and her husband Dr. Wendell James of Simpsonville, S.C., and Jana McFadden and her husband Monty of Olton.  He was blessed with 11 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

The family suggests memorials be made to the Olton Volunteer Ambulance Association P.O. Box 1087 Olton, Texas 79064, the Olton Junior Livestock Association c/o Jim Aldridge P.O. Box 393 Olton, TX 79064 or the American Cancer Society 3411 73rd St. Lubbock, TX 79423.
