Willie Gene Green passed away Wednesday, April 2, 2008 in Olton. Services will be 2:00 PM, Sunday, April 6, 2008 at the First United Methodist Church in Olton with Mike Reed, Larry Holder, and Trey Shirley, grandson, officiating. Burial will follow in Olton Cemetery.
Willie Gene was born May 19, 1927 in Delwin, TX to Lee Harrington Green and Lillian Belle Carlisle. He moved to Olton in 1934. He served in the US Navy during World War II on a minesweeper ship, the USS Pledge. He married Jean Wilcox April 30, 1951 in Kress, TX. He was a longtime farmer and Lamb County Commissioner for 12 years. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the Lions Club, and the Nifty Fifties Car Club. He was a former Olton Man of the Year and Citizen Through the Years. He served on numerous boards including the Olton Grain Coop Board, the Olton Coop Gin Board, the Production Credit Association Board, the Love in Action Board, and was presenty serving on the Runningwater Draw Care Center Board. Willie was also an advocate and strong supporter of Girl's Town, USA.
Survivors include his wife, Jean of Olton, his son, Nick Green and his wife, Rhonda of Olton, his daughter, Tammy Green Shirley and her husband, John of Snyder, TX, his brother, Marion Green of Lake Texhoma, TX, eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Dan Colbert Green in 1925.
