Wroena Thurman, 87, of Olton, died Monday, September 12, 2011 in Lubbock. Services will be at 10:00 A.M., Thursday, September 15, 2011 at the First Baptist Church in Olton with Elder Kenny Venable and Brother David Azam officiating. Interment will follow at Olton Cemetery under the direction of Ramage Funeral Directors.

Wroena was born January 12, 1924 in Knox County, Texas to Bill and Venice Arp Nichols. She moved to Olton in 1944 from Mineral Wells and was a member of the First Baptist Church. On April 2, 1949, she married Roy Thurman in Olton. She was one of the founders of the Olton Recreation Center and was an avid golfer. Wroena taught sunday school for many years and greatly loved her family and grandchildren. She was a very special mother and grandmother and will be dearly missed.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy, in 1991.

Survivors include two daughters, Janie Peterson of Royce City, and Brenda Goheen and her husband, Jerry of Littlefield, a brother, Jerry Nichols of Wheatland, Wyoming, and a sister, Billie Edwards of Lubbock. She was blessed with six grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M., Wednesday, September 14, 2011.
